Zulfi Syed on life after Bigg Boss

.

The shy guy of the Bigg Boss house, Zulfi Syed is now out. Zulfi was out in the afternoon of 22nd November 2008 and got Third Place which was shock to every one.

We got into a candid chat with Zulfi Syed regarding his tenure in Bigg Boss, his new controversial film, Deshdrohi, and who according to him will win the Bigg Boss 1 crore cash prize.

The extra awaiting of the media and the press gave us only a few minutes to talk to Zulfi. Still that few minutes was good enough to entertain our viewers.

Zulfi Syed“I am out, finally. But I don’t regret it that much, because I was able to sustain for quite long. Many came and went, many made a comeback and went back again, but I was firm at my place”, says the persistent Zulfi.

Talking about a few good moments that he cherished and who according to him deserved to be the winner, Zulfi says, “I had a blast making diyas during Diwali time. That was the best task I ever enjoyed and will always remember that. I really don’t want to talk anything about anyone, but yes Debojit was someone I wished who could win this show.

When asked why he wasn’t attracted to any girl in the house like his other fellow mates did, the smart and ultra cunning Zulfi kept quiet and only smiled, leaving us with several questions unanswered.

That was the scene in which he preferred to keep his mouth shut, maybe to avoid unwanted media attention. But he didn’t keep his mouth shut on one thing. “The day Rahul Mahajan was leaving the house, he told Ashutosh that he would make it a point and see that he (Ashutosh) wins this show”, reveals Zulfi.

Zulfi says that he accepted to be on the show only because he wanted better roles in films. Talking about films then, we asked Zulfi about his latest controversial film, Deshdrohi.

“I am really glad that ‘Deshdrohi’ is banned. I could not gel with anyone there. It was really a pain working for ‘Deshdrohi’.

'I am not talking to Raja' : Shweta Tiwari

.

Popular TV actor Shweta Tiwari takes time out with family to Goa following the recent strike. Ann A catches up with her.

She has been a RJ, she has made her niche in the telly-world, she has done ads, and films too. That’s Shweta Tiwari, who loves experimenting. Shweta Tiwari’s kitty seems to be overflowing with work, and she seems to love it. “Yes. I am doing a reality show Jalwa 4 2 Ka 1 on 9x and I am also acting in a new serial called Jaane Kya Baat Hui on Colors.”

Talking about the character she plays in Jaane Kya Baat Hui she says, “It is about the struggle of a woman who is an ordinary housewife. The character I play here is not anything like Prerna (Kasautii Zindagii Kay). She takes care of the whole world and family of four kids. She does not know about the outside world of her husband. For her, it is all about her living happily in blind faith.”

So is it any different from the usual saas bahu saga? “It is different from most of these serials which show 2-3 marriages etc. Here it is not so. It’s a story of a woman, in a different way.” For Shweta it is all about experimenting. “I didn’t want to do a character same as Prerna. I want to experiment with something different,” she says.

She says she loves reality shows and that if she comes across more good shows, she will readily participate in them. “I love dancing and almost everything except for singing.” She adds, “It is very different from acting, in reality shows it is me, I don’t have to portray someone else.”

With Shweta going gaga over reality shows, the big question is whether acting will take a back seat. “Not at all. I still love acting. After Kasauti I wanted to take a break from acting for a while, however I did some cameos for a while.”

What’s interesting is that apart from having contested in a reality show, she even became a judge of one of the shows Aajaa Mahi Vay. “Being a judge was a different experience. When I was a contestant I used to always wonder how the judges think. I realised what it is like after I became a judge, you can’t impress all the judges.” Having contested as well as played a judge, she says, “I don’t mind judging, but I would still prefer contesting because judging can get boring after a while, whereas if you are a contestant you get to try out different things.” She adds that as a judge she learnt a lot, “I was learning myself. I realised what more you can put on stage. As I told the contestants where they could improve, even I learnt something. It was something new everyday.”

Talking about her participation in Jalwa 4 2 Ka 1 where she is the captain of her team, she says, “Reality shows are fun, I want to have fun, I don’t care if I win, and I don’t care what the judges say. I am doing it for myself. I gel well with my team.”

It won’t be too long before we see Shweta on the big screen; she refused to divulge details though. “A couple of films have been lined up, but it’s too early to talk about them, negotiations are going on.” So would you be playing the lead? “Of course!” She adds that she doesn’t want to comment about films right now as she doesn’t know yet if she would be signing the film.

Shweta has just finished filming a Punjabi film Apni Boli Apna Desh where she plays the lead character Satkar. “It’s a love story. You find many Punjabis in the US and UK, they are still Indian, dressed in salwar kameez etc. They love their country and want to come back to India. They are very much Indian,” she gives a gist about the film.

Ask her if she is on talking terms with Raja and she takes a long pause before she answers, “It’s a personal question.” However she added, “I am not on talking terms with Raja.”

Being a mother, handling a family, acting, judging...all of these can take away ample of time. Ask her how she balanced work and family and she laughs it away before saying, “I balance my work and my family balances me. I can’t take time out. Whenever my daughter misses me she comes to me. Whenever I get two to three days off, we all go on an outing.” With the television producer strike on for the past few days, Shweta took her family on an outing to Goa and Mahabaleshwar.

So what is it that Shweta has learnt over the years in the telly industry, “People here talk about the work pressure and say they want offs and that they can’t work day and night. I would say, take work as long as it keeps coming. Every moment is important, work hard. You wanted it, so today when you have work, do it.”

Break ke baad...

No wonder TV stars are happily declaring in interviews 'milte hain break ke baad!'

The husband is thrilled beyond measure. I am a fan of TV soaps but even I cannot take marathon re-runs. And so, he gets to lord over the remote. And I get withdrawal symptoms.

Thanks to the stand-off between television producers and workers, the soap factory has lost all its bubbles and channels are desperately regurgitating old stuff with more desperate titles like ‘ab tak ka safar’ ‘jodi special’ ‘three-hour bonanza’ and the like.

Husbands being happy is expected but the strike has come as an unexpected pleasure to the overworked television stars. Many of them have taken this opportunity to go on a much-deserved holiday.

Daily soap stars have some of the toughest working schedules in the entertainment industry. Even if they are doing exceedingly well, TV stars have a blink-and-you-miss shelf life. Take the case of Ronit Roy. Once all over Star Plus thanks to plum roles in Kasauti Zindagi Kay and Kyunki..., both of which have gone off air, today he is spotted only occasionally as a judge in reality shows. And considering that he is one of Ekta’s ‘pets’, he will have to sit out and hope she plays guardian angel again. There’s crushing work pressure and intense competition in this field as even a slight slackening can result in the character being bumped off or cosmetic surgery-ed!

Parul Chauhan (Ragini of Bidaai) once said in an interview that after the top-rated soap became a one-hour daily, she was shooting continuously from 7 in the morning to two in the night.

Young Anjali Abrol (Rani of Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat) broke down during Nach Baliye 4 and whispered between sobs that her performance was not up to the mark because she had absolutely no time for dance rehearsals amidst her 20-hour shooting schedules. And Anjali’s only 17!

Sara Khan, who plays the pretty Sadhna in Bidaai is another 18-year-old who was hospitalised with weakness because of excessive work and no rest. She is said to have gone to the sets straight from the hospital to shoot her portions and apparently trooped right back to the sick bed.

Whew! No wonder TV stars are happily declaring in interviews ‘milte hain break ke baad!’

New reality show for old item girls - 'Dancing Queen'

Yet another dance reality show will hit TV screens soon. The unique factor of this show called 'Dancing Queen' is that it will feature 10 item girls including Rakhi Sawant who will set the dance floor on fire with their jhatkas, matkas and catfights.

A source informs us," The concept of this show is different as this time top item girls will be performing with choreographers that will be assigned to them. It would be interesting to see how these girls will dance to songs of other actresses or item girls. The show is a good opportunity for upcoming choreographers to showcase their talent."

Regarding the contestants on the show, he reveals, "There are item girls like Sambhavna Seth, Rakhi Sawant, Alina and her sister Sana of Bigg Boss fame, model Moon Das who was recently in news when her obsessive lover killed her mother and singer Sanobar Kabir among many others Kashmeera Shah has not confirmed her participation on the show. There are bound to be fights between her and Rakhi if she joins the show"

Speaking about the judges, he tells us, "It has been said that Hema Malini will judge the show and Mithun Chakraborty was also approached to judge the show but he refused to come on board. Ekta Kapoor's blue eyed boy Shabbir Ahluwalia, who has a large female fan following will host the show."

Our source says that the ongoing strike has delayed the show's schedule. "The makers were going to start shooting this month itself but the ongoing strike has delayed the shooting and the launch of the show."

Kamna from SOL Productions, the producers of the show, says," Actually all shows are getting pushed due to the current strike but the channel will announce the launch of the show soon. We are not allowed to give any further details at the moment."

Bidaai stars honoured

The four young leads of Bidaai - Sara Khan, Parul Chauhan, Angad Hasija and Kinshuk Mahajan - were honoured by kids of St. Rock High School yesterday. The award was given to acknowledge their success in the world of television at such a young age.

"We went there on Friday for school function where they honoured all four of us for achieving success at early age. It was a lot of fun .There were few performances also like a few kids performed on a song. They also performed a drama for us," informs Sara.

"Then after performances got over they called us on stage and gave us gifts and flowers. We too distributed prizes to kids. We all gave small speeches…however as soon as I started talking kids were screaming and then asked me where is Ali. I was so amazed with that they knew everything about me. It was good experience; it reminded me of my school,” adds the young actress.

Talking about her school memories as a kid she says, “I was never a quiet student. I was naughtiest girl in my class. I used to do lots of masti and also got a lot of punishments for that. I was very talkative person and my teacher always used to throw me out of the class for that!"

Reshmi Ghosh to get hitched

Reshmi Ghosh who shot to fame as Bhoomi in Kyunki… says she will soon get married to her beau Amit Gupta. The duo can be presently seen swirling to the tunes of Bollywood numbers on Nach Baliye 4.

"Marriage is soon on the cards," says Reshmi, "Once we wrap up Nach Baliye maybe…Most probably early next year we will tie the knot."

Ghosh says she always wanted to get married to a marwari or a catholic guy and the day she met Amit, she realized that her desire will surely get fulfilled one day.

"Amit is a marwari. I love marwari culture and getting married to him will be like a dream come true!" says the excited model cum actress.

"I want to do it in a very grand way. A wedding of 11 days with all my friends and relatives," says the actress.

Amit and Reshmi met at Namit Kapoor’s acting school. Soon after that they became very good friends and gradually they became a couple.

TOP 10 Celebrity moms of Television

As we progress towards a global world where gender, caste, creed and country do not matter in the professional world, one of the biggest challenges women face today is how to balance their personal and work life. With increasing expectations from both sides, today's working mother finds herself struggling hard to maintain the balance. The situation gets worse in the television industry where work schedules are erratic and hours inhuman. TC spoke to some of the celebrity moms from the television industry on how they are coping with this challenge.

Shubangi Atre (Kasturi) :

Shubangi Atre with daughter AashiBeing a working mother, that too from the television industry is very difficult. When I started the show (Kasturi) my daughter (Aashi) was one and a half year's old. I still remember the day I got selected for the show -- I had to travel in the middle of the night. You know how difficult it is to leave an infant in the middle of the night and leave. But I had to and thus immediately called my parents and asked them to stay with the baby while I went for the shoot.

I think it is very important to have either parents or in- laws around for working women. It is impossible to manage otherwise. In fact, just the other day I saw a story on a national channel about how maids and nannies gave sleeping pills to babies to put them to sleep for long hours. I shuddered to think what would have happened to Aashi if someone did that to her. With parents it is so much safe. I am so relieved that my parents stay with me in Mumbai. But I also understand it is not always possible. So my advice for all working mothers who do not have the luxury of having their parents or in- laws around is to stay with the nanny for some time and only after you are comfortable, leave her alone with the baby.

Now Aashi is 3 and very happy seeing me on television. She waits for 9.30 pm everyday and watches my serial! In fact, she was my role model when I played the role of a lady who had become a kid mentally, because of an accident. I tried to imitate her on the sets and was praised by all for my performance. In fact, Aashi wanted me to get back all the toys I used during the shoot!

Interestingly, my daughter is already getting offers for ads but I don't want her to take it up now. One offer had a weird shift timing so I said no. I do not have any problems if she decides to take this up as a career.

Gouri Tonk (Wife of actor Yash Tonk and also an actress):

Gouri Tonk with daughter Pari I had loads of problems balancing my work and personal life. Since there are no fixed timings in our profession, it becomes very challenging to maintain the balance. My daughter Pari (5 years old now) used to have loads of problems initially with me not around for a large part of the day.

Luckily my parents stay with me now and thus there is not too much of an issue. I am completely against the concept of a nanny for the baby. After Pari was born, I have become very selective in terms of taking up offers. Yash and I sit down and identify which offer to take only after considering all possible outcomes. I have certain rules -- no shoots outside Mumbai and no night shifts. Only if the producers agree to these conditions do I take on the role.

Despite long hours, I don't want to take Pari to the sets now because I have seen kids losing their innocence on the sets. I tell her that I go to my office everyday which happens to be the studio. When she grows up, she can decide for herself whether she wants to be part of this industry or not. As of now, Yash and I want to provide her with the best of education.

Pooja Bedi:

Pooja Bedi with daughter Aaliya Though it may sound very cliched, but I have never faced any problems due to my workload. I have always been associated with quality shows on good channels and have always kept a gap (at least two-three months) between my shows so that I can spend time with my children -- Aaliya and Omar. I have also taken my children on the sets. For example when I went for Fear Factor, I took my kids to South Africa. We even spent a holiday in Sun City after that. Even during Bigg Boss, I used to take my kids on the sets. I am very fortunate that both my kids are very sensible.

But I can understand the plight of mothers who are part of daily soaps. They work on such tight deadlines that it is impossible to spend time with their children. It really is very difficult for them. But I feel they should somehow try to get some time out of their busy schedules. And most importantly, no working mother should feel guilty of not being able to spend time because of working.

Lubna Salim (Baa Bahoo Aur Baby):

Lubna Salim with sons Farhaz and FaizeeThis problem is faced by all working mothers, irrespective of the industry they work in. I feel the magnitude of the problem depends on the age group of the child. Once the child grows up, the problem reduces. I have two kids -- Farhaz and Faizee -- who study in class seven and nine respectively. Both of them have been in hostels for a long time.

Since both my kids liked outdoor games from their childhood, and there was no grounds near to the place where we lived, we decided to put them in a hostel. Of course, there were some other personal reasons also for which we got them admitted to the Bishop School in Pune. They stayed in the hostel for a long time and have grown up well. My elder child has come back and is with me now. The younger one is still in the hostel.

I feel, for working mothers, no matter how many maids you have, unless your husband helps, it is not going to be smooth. My husband, being from the same industry understood my constraints and helped me a lot. But we have to face the fact that a 24 X 7 job is not possible for the mother. For a child a mother is more important than anyone else and she needs to spend a lot more time than anyone else. I strongly feel that if working mothers think that they do not have the time to spend with the child, they should not conceive.

Eva Grover:

Eva Grover I have a 17-month old daughter. Her name is Ayana. After she was born, I took a break of 5 months before starting to work. The initial days were very difficult because I used to miss her a lot. In fact, it became so bad that I started bringing her to the sets. I just could not concentrate on my work without her. My mother helps me a lot with babysitting whenever required. Plus, I also have a maid who helps me a lot.

I feel it is very important to keep the baby close to all family members. Though today most families are nuclear, I feel having a kid grow up amongst grandparents is very important. The more they are comfortable with your extended family, the easier it will be to continue working.

Aparna Tilak:

Aparna TilakMy son is 13 years old so I do not have too much of an issue now. Plus I have also reduced the number of serials I do. But initially it was difficult. I feel it is better if someone starts working after the baby is 2 years old. What most people do not know is that I started working after I became a mother! My husband encouraged me a lot and he has been a real boon in my life. He takes care of our son when I am not there. No matter what people say, the mother needs to make some more adjustments. Till now, I have been able to manage somehow. Thank God that we are being able to provide him all the facilities. Once he completes his education he can decide for himself whether he wants to join this industry or not.

If I remember rightly, Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi went to fight a battle with her child tied to her back! If she could do it, why can't we?

Second Place goes to Raja Chaudharay

He gives new meaning to the phrase "Any publicity is good publicity". While Raja Chaudhary might have tasted a bit of fame while dancing along side his now separated wife, television actress Shweta Tiwari - it was the infamous domestic abuse incident that took him to the front page of most tabloids. And the bad boy tag didn't help him much during his stay at Bigg Boss house.

Not many know that Raja has played many a villain in Bhojpuri films, including one with his then wife Shweta in Saiyyan Hamar Hindustani. But even this bad boy has friends hooting for him back home

Third Place goes to Zulfi Syed

His shy demeanor has kept Zulfi Syed out of most controversies in Bigg Bosshouse, though facing 32 cameras might be a new experience, this model turned actor has featured in several forgettable movies including - Taj Mahal, Mr Hot and Mr Kool and more recently Deshdrohi. What has helped Zulfi stay in the race perhaps is also his traditional good looks and a steady female fan following. And this Bangalore boy has his family backing him all the way.

"Zulfi is the only person who is properly in the house without any contact with the outside world. He is completely incommunicable," says Zulfi's Brother-in Law, Sharyar Khan

Deepak & Bobby Darling refused to come Bigg Boss Finale

When contacted, Deepak said, “Yes, I was invited to be part of the Bigg Boss 2 grand finale but I had prior commitments so I had to turn it down.” While Deepak chose not to come, poor Bobby Darling wasn’t even invited. “No one has invited me. Had they done so, then I would have obviously charged them for my visit. Why would I waste time to go all the way to Lonavala and get paid nothing,” said an agitated Bobby.

Poor Bobby may not be there, but there surely won’t be any shortage of action at the grand finale.

Because.............

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar will be the star attraction at the grand finale of Bigg Boss 2. However, there’ll be more fireworks when item girl Rakhi Sawant clashes with Sambahvna Seth. Ah-ah! There won’t be any verbal volley but the item girls will try and out beat each other on the dance floor.

According to sources, the performing artistes will be divided in two teams – one led by Rakhi the other by Sambhavana. It remains to be seen who the other performers will be. Though one thing is certain, if Payal Rohatgi’s performing then she surely can’t be in Sambhavna’s team. Well, one wonders how comfortable will Ms.Payal be with Rakhi Sawant too?

Another highlight of the show will be the likely presence of contestants from Bigg Boss season 1. While Ravi Kissen has already stepped into the house, don’t be surprised if we see some of his Bigg Boss season 1 inmates at the finale too. Two individuals who won’t be there are Deepak Tijori and Bobby Darling.

Dr. Ridhima of Dill Mill Gayye dating a hotelier

The sweet and simple Dr. Ridhima of Dill Mill Gayye aka Sukriti Khandpal has a man in her life. She is in a committed relationship since three years.

A source informs, “She is dating a hotelier. His name is still under wraps but news has it that Sukriti is seeing him since the past three years. She had met him when she was in college. Due to his hotel business, he keeps shuffling between Mumbai and London. The two of them are completely smitten by each other and in spite of being busy with their respective professions they manage to find time for each other. Incidentally, Sukriti’s father who is a High Court lawyer has also recently turned a hotelier.”

Talking of the man in her life Sukriti informs, “Yes, I have someone in my life but I wouldn’t like to name him or talk much about him.” Are your parents aware of your relationship? She replies, “My mother knows about it and I think my father has some clue that I am seeing someone.” So, is marriage on the cards? She quips, “I am only twenty one years old. I have not yet thought of getting married. Why are you asking me about marriage? It is a far off thing. Do you want me to get married and leave acting?”

On asking her about the way she is spending her free time due to the strike, she says, “Now that I have got a break from work I am using this opportunity to spend some quality time with my boyfriend and family members. I have been neglecting my family since a long time.”

Rakhi is hurting and how

The world knows that Rakhi Sawant is a drama queen and she ensures living up to this image. She recently did something that adds to the list of all the dramatic incidents in her life.

An eye witness informs, “Her break- up with Abhishek Awasthi has affected her so much that the otherwise fitness freak finds it difficult to concentrate on her workout sessions. She is sad, depressed yet loud about her emotions during her exercise regime. Recently when the song Bakhuda… from the movie Kismat Konnection was played in the gym where she was working out, she created a fuss.

As soon as the song was played, she cried saying, “Please stop this song. The song disturbs me emotionally as I have memories of Abhishek attached to this song. It is torturing me.” She jumped off the treadmill and ran all over the place shutting her ears. The song was switched off on her request. She calmed down only when her trainer scolded her saying that her behaviour was unacceptable and she should leave all her problems outside the gym. Other members in the gym had an entertaining time watching her.”

If just a song could have such an effect on Rakhi wonder what other memories do to her.

Zulfi should be the winner. He’s seems to be the most balanced individual amongst all. He’s not been too diplomatic or cunning. He’s played the game very smartly. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t win.

Deepak Tijori:

Honestly speaking, I’ve hardly been able to catch the second season. Thus, I’ve got no idea as to who will win. In the few episodes that I saw, I was impressed with Diana Hayden. I thought she’d win but that wasn’t to be.

Vaani Sharma:

Rahul and Raja would have been the ideal winners because they are thorough entertainers. However, Ashutosh has been himself. He’s badly in need of money too. Besides, he’s got a very cute dimple. I hope he wins.

Gaurav Khanna:

With Rahul gone, I think Raja is the next most popular guy. In that regard, I expect him to win. If it’s not him then I expect Ashutosh to come up triumphs.

Ayushman Khurrana:

As an MTV VJ, I’ll obviously support my friend from Roadies – Ashutosh Kaushik. Keeping aside the common factor, I still think that Ashutosh will win. He been through a tough reality show before and knows how to come out triumphs. We’re all rooting for him.

Neha Marda:

I want Ashutosh to win. He’s a very innocent guy. He may be abusive but latest he’s being himself. I’ve never seen him resort to gossiping. He speaks straight from the heart.

Yuvraj Malhotra:

I’ve been following the show regularly. I’m hoping to be part of Bigg Boss next year. My pick for this year will be Raja Chaudhary. He’s very clever and diplomatic. After spending over 90 days, he appears to have mastered the trick of the trade.

Bobby Darling:

I want Raja to win. He’s a deserving candidate. He’s been through turbulent times in life. That Ashutosh has made his money by winning Roadies. Zulfi is well settled. Raja looks good on the screen. He may not have the perfect personality but it’s fascinating. I don’t like that villager Ashutosh. He’s very dirty. Zulfi may be good looking but he’s very dumb. He simply doesn’t know how to converse.
