Zee TV’s Waaris to go off air

Zee TV’s Waaris produced by Smriti Irani is soon going off air. It’s been barely three months since the show launched and it is now been given a burial.

A source from the show informed, “Waaris is going off air as the TRPs are not up to the mark and there is also some friction between the channel and the production house. This friction began after the parallel lead Yuvraj Malhotra was sacked by the production house. There are a few episodes left that need to be shot to give a logical end to the show. Since the shoot is on hold due to the strike, the pull-out date is also uncertain. It will be finalised once the strike comes to an end.”

Confirming the news, Zee TV programming head Ajay Balwankar said, “Yes, Waaris is going off air but there is still sometime for it to happen. The date of the show’s wind up is uncertain due to the strike. This show was an experiment which did not work. The story was very good but somehow it has not picked up. ”

When asked about the tiff between the channel and the production house, he said, “I will say that it was just a difference of opinion on creativity and such differences occur among creative people.”

Lead actor of the show Iqbal Khan said, “It is news to me. I am not yet informed about it. If the show is going off air, I would have been informed by now. So I don’t think it is going off air.”

Producer Smriti Irani refused to comment saying that it is appropriate only for the channel to speak on this topic.
