Colors grabs 2nd spot with 250 GRPs





Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) space is getting hotter and tougher at the top.

Viacom18’s Colors has pulled down the number two player Zee TV to the third spot, according to Tam data for the week ended 4 October (C&S, 4+, HSM). Even Star Plus, the market leader since 2000, is coming under threat from the new challenger.

Colors ends the week with 250 GRPs (gross rating points), 30 GRPs ahead of Zee TV and 28 GRPs behind Star Plus. While Zee TV lost 16 GRPs over the previous week ended 27 September while Star Plus shed 20 GRPs.

Ladies TOP in Soaps but Zero in Reality shows?

For the second continuous week, Colors’ flagship show Balika Vadhu stands as the top-rated show in the GEC turf with 6.77 TVR. Star Plus’ Bidaai is the second most-watched show, garnering a TVR of 6.22.

Colors’ Jai Shri Krishna stands firm with 4.19 TVR. Reality shows and films have also driven traffic to the channel. Shah Rukh Khan starrer blockbuster Om Shanti Om pocketed 2.97 TVR while reality shows like Bigg Boss 2 got 2.47 TVR and Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena had 1.97 TVR.

Star Plus has four shows among the top 10 programmes in the GEC space. After Bidaai, Kis Desh Mein Hain Mera Dill is the second best show for Star Plus with 4.09 TVR. Kyunki Saas Bi Kabhi Bahu Thi has a TVR of 3.39 while Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki has 3.37 TVR and Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat 3.34 TVR.

Zee TV's top-rated show Saath Phere has pocketed 3.77 TVR, Banoo Main Tere Dulhann 3.73 TVR and Kasamh Se 3.73 TVR.

Sony Entertainment Channel (Set)'s Indian Idol has got 2.88 TVR while Fanaa garnered only 0.97 TVR.

Set is on the fourth spot with 105 GRPs, while Star Plus' sister channel Star One is at fifth spot with 100 GRPs (gained 27 GRPs). NDTV Imagine follows with 78 GRPs while Sahara One is seventh with 69 GRPs. 9X takes the eighth spot with 58 GRPs while Sab has 33 GRPs.

Worst Television Judges!

"Even though there is a huge competition in the entire GEC space, the total GRPs for the genre has not increased. The fight in the space will be for taking away market share from competing networks," says a media analyst.
