Nandish and Rashmi did not want to be a part of the leap, says producer Rupali Guha

Rashmi Desai and Nandish Sandhu

The news has already spread like wild fire that Uttaran is taking a leap of 18 years. Tina Dutta will be seen in a double role (as Iccha and her daughter Meethi) and Sreejita De has been signed to play Tapasya’s (Rashmi Desai’s) daughter, Mukta. The leap sequence will air from 26 March 2012.

“It is the show’s natural progression. I hope that viewers love Meethi and Mukta like the way they loved Iccha and Tapasya,” shares Rupali Guha, producer of Uttaran (FilmFarm Productions).

Post- leap, two prominent characters in the show, namely Tapasya (Rashmi Desai) and Veer (Nandish Sandhu) will be missing. So will it affect Uttaran’s popularity?

“I hope it does not. Nandish and Rashmi did not want to be a part of the leap sequence. I respect their decision. I don’t hold any grudges against them. More than the characters, the script is important. We have to keep the soul of the show intact. It is a move that we have taken and we hope that viewers will like it,” Rupali goes on to explain.

So will the leap further hike up the TRPs?

“TRPs of Uttaran are already good. I hope it hikes up further. But as a producer, I can focus on the script and concept. Numbers are not in my hands,” she opines.

Furthermore, many old and renowned shows are being take off air by different channels, including Colors, and they are launching serials with new and fresher content post IPL. So will Uttaran also bid adieu to its viewers sometime in the near future?

“That is something you should ask Prashant (Bhatt, Fiction Head, Colors). I don’t really know about it,” she ends.

Well, Rupali we hope that Uttaran rocks and keeps getting superb TRPs with its leap sequence!!!
