The blurred and doubtful selection process of popular singing reality shows like Indian Idol, Sare Gama Pa, Voice of India is a farce. The auditions are conducted by amateurs with no knowledge about music. What they look for, are good looks!.
GONE ARE the days when singers were known for their voice and quality of singing. Today shows like Indian Idol, Sa Re Gama Pa and Voice of India look for that so called X-factor!
‘Jo dikhta hai, wohi bikta hai’ has now become the fundamental principle of today’s reality shows.
Before being presented to the actual panel of judges, Anu Malik, Javed Akhtar, Himesh Reshmiyan, Shankar Mahadevan, etc the contestants are judged by the casting producers, who don’t have a proper music background. Forget about a music background, they hardly have any knowledge about music. What they look for, are good looks!
As a result, a number of young talents are ignored and demoralised.
To gain TRPs, they purposely choose comical figures. There are two separate categories for auditions, one for the singers and the other for these comical figures.
And there are times, when no auditions take place, though the audition dates are repeatedly flashed on televisions. Only well-connected people get a chance to be considered. Youngsters still line up for the auditions, many stay awake for the whole night, and many avoid eating. The cameramen from these shows come, capture the whole scene -- the enthusiasm and then go away. Then suddenly a group of security officers arrive and inform that the auditions have been cancelled. And when people refuse to go away, the police start their lathicharge! (1st audition of Voice of India)
The selection process of such reality shows are not only surprising but shocking too!
