Poeple re-actions of Repeat telecasts

Every couch potato's worst fears have come true. From today, you won't get to see any fresh episodes of your favourite soaps and reality shows. The broadcasters (Hindi GECS) have blacked out all fresh programming after the workers union and TV producers failed to solve their differences. Beginning last night all soaps have repeat telecasts. Some channels are going to beam soaps from the past to keep the viewer interest alive but will it bear fruit?

Webnsn.com spoke to a few TV viewers as to how they will go about their viewing habits from today.

Mala Bahadur (housewife):

Favourite shows Balika Vadhu, Maayka, Indian Idol

It's a grim scenario for us viewers. We can watch the repeats for a while but not too long. After a while, you will get bored of seeing the same stuff. Thus, I hope whatever the problem is it's resolved quickly. I'm not a big fan of Bigg Boss so I'm likely to snub it. That leaves me with nothing to watch.

Vinay Kumar (housewife):

Favourite shows – Balika Vadhu, Main Teri Parchhain Hoon, Jeevan Saathi, Bandhan, Ramayan, Comedy Circu

I still don't know what the problem is but my son told me from today I won't get to see any fresh episodes. I'm a huge fan of Colors and have been watching three of their shows. I find Bigg Boss very vulgar so I'll be left with no option but to watch the repeat telecasts. However, when I'm bored of them, I've asked my son to show me some Hindi movies.

Urmil Bararia (Housewife):

Favourite shows – Saat Phere, Kasamh Se, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Balika Vadhu

I'm a couch potato to the core but this period is more of a breather for me. After watching these shows day in and day out, you get addicted to them. Thus, I am going to enjoy this break. There's no way that I'm going to watch the repeat telecast or that crass Bigg Boss. From hereon, I can bide time for other activities, in particularly writing.

Shikhi Jain (Business Technology Analyst):

Favourite shows – Nach Baliye

I'm not at all a soap lover. So, I'm least likely to be affected by this black out. Whether they are fresh or old episodes, these soaps are all the same and predictable. So, if you've seen an Ekta soap of the past, the same is repeated in existing shows.

The only thing that I watch on Hindi GECs is Nach Baliye. I don't think I'll have any reservation watching repeat telecasts. When you love dancing, it doesn't matter whether it's an old episode, you will always love watching it. Apart from Nach Baliye, I'll continue watching cartoons and channels such as Discovery.

Gaurav, (a media research analyst):

Anti-television and thus has no favourite shows.

People will find alternate sources of entertainment, and there will be a break from kitchen politics and all rona-dhona (crying). Besides, the couch potatoes will have time do something more productive. For a change other members of the family will also have their chance to hold that TV remote.

Sudha Patre (housewife):

Favourite shows – Bidaai, Indian Idol, Balika Vadhu, Indian Idol, Bigg Boss

My children have their exams so the TV is switched off most of the time. So I'm not likely to miss much as it will all be only old episodes on air. I'm not going to watch any old episodes. I will continue to watch Bigg Boss. Apart from that, I'll watch news and music channels. The one good thing about this period is that all family members can sit together and watch a particular program. Even though I'm not too fond of cricket, I like watching it with the family. I remember during IPL, we used to watch the matches together. If there's any cricket coming up in the next fortnight then, we will watch it.
