TOP Indian Television Anchors

If I had announced a few years ago that India would soon have access to its very own golf channel people would have laughed at me. Not anymore!

I can not explain my joy at learning that a channel dedicated to golf will soon be beamed in the country throughout the day. This initiative undertaken by the Taj TV (Ten Sports) is a landmark decision and one that signals the continuous rise of the game in India. Why else would Ten Sports think about launching Ten Golf if it did not make business sense?

The seeds for a channel exclusively dedicated to golf were first sown in the United States way back in 1995 when the Golf Channel was launched by a media entrepreneur in partnership with the great Arnold Palmer. How have they been doing? Just last year they inked a 15-year deal with the PGA Tour. It is obviously indicative of a successful venture. Just in the second year of its deal with the PGA Tour, halfway through the season, the Golf Channel witnessed a near 20 per cent jump in PGA Tour viewership.

Ramp got hot after Bollywood stars walkssss

The most remarkable statistic that came to my notice was the kind of viewers a golf channel attracts. Sample this: A golf channel viewer is one and a half times more likely to make a purchasing decision than a viewer on any other channel. It makes great business sense for all the advertisers out there who are sure to reap benefits and can be assured of good returns on investment.

So with Ten Sports airing the initial promos for Ten Golf you can say one thing for sure, India can now be officially considered a golf market with great potential with enough number of golf enthusiasts to ensure the sustainability of a golf channel.

It will also mark the beginning of a new era for Indian golf. Just like television gave cricket a fillip, an exclusive golf channel would go a long way in promoting the game.

Over 650 killed in terror attacks in India in 8 years

With so many golf tournaments played through the year and the several tours, there would be no shortage of content. Add to that the many interesting shows that can be aired around golf, you can be assured of engaging content.

The real thrill of watching the game on television for the casual golfer is that you are seeing something that you could have possibly achieved yourself.

While you might not be able to Bend it Like Beckham you sure can (albeit occasionally) hit a good iron from the rough, on to the green just like a professional on one of those days. It is that connect that is established which encourages a golfer to watch more of golf on television once they have picked up the game.

Now that there are so many people involved with the sport and so many new people coming into the fold you can expect the channel to have a great number of viewers.

No longer would we have to miss out on some of the best in golf competing in an intense battle just because a live match of our cricketers playing a domestic match has to be aired. Here's to a new beginning.
